Products Description

PTC heaters play a variety of key roles in electric vehicles, mainly in the following aspects

Car heating: In cold weather, PTC heaters are used in the heating module of the air-conditioning system to transfer heat to the interior of the cabin by heating the air or coolant to increase the interior temperature and ensure passenger comfort.

Battery warm-up: The battery performance of electric vehicles will significantly decrease in low-temperature environments, affecting the cruising range and charging and discharging efficiency. The PTC heater can preheat the battery to keep it within the optimal operating temperature range, improving battery performance and service life.

Defrost and defogging: The PTC heater can be installed near the windshield to heat the glass surface to quickly remove frost and fog, ensuring clear vision for the driver and improving driving safety.

Product life
The design life of the high-pressure coolant heater is 8000 hours, and the warranty period is one year.

High voltage interlock
The high-voltage interlock signal is directly led out from the low-voltage end, not uploaded through the bus.
When the high voltage connector is disconnected, the high voltage interlock line is disconnected before the high voltage power line. After the vehicle detects that the interlock line is disconnected, the high voltage power will be cut off. This function effectively avoids the possibility of sparks and the risk of electric shock when the high voltage connector is connected and disconnected.

How Does the Heater Support Battery Thermal Management in EVs?

✅ Battery Temperature Optimization: EV battery packs operate best between 20-40°C. A PTC water heater is essential for pre-conditioning batteries in cold climates, reducing charge time and improving range.

✅ Integration with Cooling Loops: The heater works in conjunction with electronic water pumps, ensuring uniform heat distribution to prevent localized overheating or cooling inefficiencies.

✅ Smart Thermal Cycling: Some systems allow the heater to cycle on/off based on battery demand, ensuring optimal energy use without unnecessary heat generation.

Products Installation

The high-pressure coolant heater assembly has 4 φ4.45 mounting holes, which are provided for vehicle or bracket installation. The recommended installation torque is 5N±1; it uses a φ19 standard water pipe with specifications as shown below. The installation structure and quantitative data are shown in the 3D digital model and 2D drawings.

The high-pressure coolant heater assembly has a 1 M6 stud for the vehicle grounding wire connection. It is recommended to use an M6 nut to fix the grounding harness to the grounding screw. The recommended nut tightening torque is ≤9Nm

Vehicle electrical requirements

A. Overvoltage protection: The vehicle needs to have an over-voltage and under-voltage power supply shutdown function
B. Short-circuit current: It is recommended to arrange a dedicated fuse in the heater high-voltage circuit to protect the heater and high-voltage circuit-related parts
C. The vehicle system needs to ensure a reliable insulation monitoring system and insulation fault handling mechanism.
D. High-voltage wiring harness interlocking function
E. Ensure that the positive and negative poles of the high-voltage power supply cannot be reversed

Vehicle installation environment requirements

A. The heater must be arranged according to the recommended requirements, and it must be ensured that the air inside the heater can be discharged through the water channel. If air is trapped inside the heater, it may cause the heater to overheat, thereby activating software protection, and in severe cases, hardware damage may occur.

B. The heater is not allowed to be placed at the highest position of the cooling system. It is recommended to place it at a relatively low position of the cooling system.

C. The operating environment temperature of the heater is -40℃~120℃. It is not recommended to be installed in an environment without air circulation around high heat sources of the vehicle (hybrid vehicle engine, range extender, pure electric vehicle exhaust pipe, etc.).

D. The allowed layout requirements of the product in the vehicle are shown in the following figure:
