1 Battery cooling technology


1.1 Air cooling


The air is introduced into the box through the fan, passing over the outer surface of the module or battery cell at a certain flow rate to take away the heat. The main design content: air duct design, fan selection, and cooling air temperature control. The air duct design includes cell gap air cooling/bottom air cooling, series/parallel, and other structures.

 

Advantages and disadvantages: simple structure, low cost, no leakage, but low heat exchange efficiency and poor temperature uniformity.

 

1.2 Liquid cooling


The heat generated by the battery is brought to the external air conditioning system through the internal liquid cooling system through liquid convection heat exchange.

 

In addition to the common forms, there are also integrated liquid cooling systems and direct contact liquid cooling systems.

 

Advantages: fast cooling speed, large specific volume, high heat transfer coefficient.

 

Disadvantages: complex structure, high cost, and risk of leakage.

 

1.3 Direct cooling system


The direct cooling system is a refrigerant direct cooling system that uses the phase change cooling of the refrigerant to take away heat.

Advantages: high cooling efficiency (3-4 times), compact structure, and avoidance of liquid leakage risk in the liquid cooling system.

Disadvantages: temperature, pressure, and flow are not easy to control.
