If the temperature is too low in winter, the battery in an electric vehicle will degrade (lose capacity), weaken (reduce output), and there is also a risk of rapid discharge (risk of internal short circuit due to lithium deposition) if charged in that condition. If the temperature is too low, it needs to be preheated (or kept warm). PTC coolant heaters are primarily used to preheat batteries for room heating, window defrosting and defogging, or thermal management of power cells. The electric heater can be used in both vehicle driving mode and park mode.
