Technical Safety Concept
The PTC electric heater system consists of 2 modules: electronic module and heating module.
The expected function of the PTC electric heater is to provide high-voltage power for the PTC heating element through IGBT, and control the heating current through software and temperature sensor Temp2.
Functional safety mechanisms for heating modules:
The over temperature of the heating module can be detected through software and temperature sensor Temp2, and the IGBT is controlled by software to turn off the heating current. In addition, the PTC heating element can limit the heating current and temperature independently of the electronic module. The sealed metal casing of the PTC electric heater can prevent the PTC electric heater from overheating.
Functional safety mechanisms for electronic modules:
The over temperature of the electronic module is detected by software and temperature sensor Temp1, and then the heating current is turned off by software. In addition, the sealed metal housing of the electronic module protects the PTC electric heater from overheating.
Application
Electric vehicle PTC coolant heater mainly used in fuel cell thermal management systems, and heating of car cabs and passenger compartments. There are overcurrent, short circuit, overheating and other protection functions. The redundant sealing design can improve system reliability.
